The Technique Approach To:
Neck and Shoulder Pain

Here at The Technique PT, we’ve treated thousands of people with neck and shoulder pain – it’s one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal conditions affecting adults in the US. These issues can stem from a variety of causes. It could be related to your ergonomic desk setup or a postural issue. It might also come from overuse injuries, especially if you’re an overhead athlete or constantly using your upper body with poor mechanics and without proper support from stabilizing muscles. All of these factors can contribute to these problems.

At The Technique PT, we understand how much this pain impacts your life. Looking down at your cell phone or being on a laptop all day could affect your ability to work. It might cause you to take more days off or even keep you from going to the gym or enjoying the activities you love.

What Are The Symptoms Of Neck and Shoulder Pain?

Symptoms of neck and shoulder pain that we frequently encounter at The Technique PT include pain that ranges from mild discomfort to debilitating pain. Common symptoms include stiffness, aching, or sharp sensations in the neck, shoulders, or upper back. Some individuals experience a limited range of motion, making it difficult to turn their heads or lift their arms. Radiating pain, numbness, or tingling down the arms may also occur if nerves are compressed. Muscle tension or spasms in the neck and shoulders are frequent complaints, often exacerbated by poor posture or stress.

These symptoms can significantly impact daily life. Pain may make it challenging to perform everyday activities such as lifting objects, working at a computer, or even sleeping comfortably. Social activities and exercise routines might be disrupted, and chronic discomfort can cause a series deterioration in mental well-being.  Left untreated, neck and shoulder pain can lead to reduced productivity, missed workdays, and a diminished quality of life.

What Is Our Approach To Treating Neck and Shoulder Pain?

We have worked with mothers who experience difficulty nursing their children because of neck and shoulder pain. We’ve addressed these issues by focusing on proper positioning, strengthening certain muscles, and stretching tight areas like the upper traps. If you have a tight neck, we also assess your mobility.

We take a comprehensive approach to your body and create a plan tailored specifically to your needs because one plan might not work for everyone. A posture assessment is always part of our process, and we include a plan to strengthen your body.

We use various modalities, such as cupping, and gua sha tools – metal instruments used in Eastern medicine to provide relief to deep tissues. Breathing techniques and strengthening exercises are also incorporated into the treatment.

If your goal is to return to the gym and work out at your best, we’ll design a workout plan at a high level that fits your needs – not just basic, boring exercises that do nothing to relieve your pain.
