The Technique Approach To:
Lower back Pain
Low back pain is a common condition that affects the area of the spine between the ribs and the pelvis. It can occur for many reasons, ranging from acute injuries to chronic issues. Acute low back pain often happens when lifting an object
At The Technique PT we’ve seen a variety of conditions and one of the most common is low back pain. It can originate due to a number of factors, often related to strain, injury, or structural issues in the lower spine. One common cause is muscle strain or ligament sprain from lifting heavy objects improperly, sudden movements, or overuse during physical activity. Poor posture, especially when sitting or standing for long periods, can also lead to imbalances of the strain of the lower back.
Degenerative conditions such as arthritis or spinal stenosis, which involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, can also contribute to low back pain, particularly in older adults. Other causes include sciatica, a condition where the sciatic nerve becomes irritated, leading to pain that radiates down the leg. In some cases, low back pain may result from underlying health issues like kidney problems or osteoporosis.
What Are The Symptoms Of Low Back Pain?
Low back pain often presents a range of symptoms that can vary in intensity and frequency. You might feel localized discomfort in the lower back or sensations radiating down your legs, into your hip, and gluteal region. This pain might be intermittent, coming and going without warning, or it could persist all day long, making even simple tasks feel challenging.
Sometimes, low back pain only becomes noticeable during certain movements, such as bending, lifting, or twisting. These limitations can make daily activities, like carrying groceries or playing with your children, feel daunting. Over time, the discomfort can lead to changes in posture as your body tries to compensate, potentially causing strain in other areas.
The impact on your quality of life can be significant. Pain may disrupt sleep, reduce productivity at work, and prevent you from enjoying hobbies like exercising, dancing, or even socializing comfortably with loved ones.

What Is Our Approach To Treating Lower Back Pain?
Why else does back pain last longer than it should do? Well, it’s easy to get confused because you’ve been told different things, by different people. There’s lots of people out there who are happy to dispense advice – but not all of it is credible.
Maybe you think your back pain was caused by doing something – like lifting or sleeping awkwardly – but really it was caused by years and years of poor posture that caused the muscles in your lower back to become weak and the lifting of the awkward sleeping position was just the EFFECT of that.
If you don’t know what you’re doing – back pain can be very confusing and because of this, many people just end up accepting it as ‘part of life’ – as if it’s normal, and ‘just the way it is’.
